We hiked along a path, got to a bridge that looked up to the falls and decided we had enough time to get to them. It was SO worth it! We walked up these stone steps along the huge waterfall and got SOAKED! People  on the way back kept asking us where we went swimming. Holy moly, there was an amazing rainbow following us the whole way up too, it was fantastic.

So after that we got cleaned up, took a little nap and shot a wedding! The wedding photos are coming up next, but here’s our hike!

I can’t remember when or how I met Heather but I am SURE that she made an impression! Heather tends to do that. She’s a spunky little red head who is full of life and energy. She loves to laugh and have fun but don’t let her fool you she can be quite sassy if she needs to! Heather and I always saw each other at various get togethers with out mutual friends and somewhere along the way we just became friends. She’s awesome and I love when I hear from her about her adventures in wedding photography or when she has questions about crocheting…I mean there is no one else I would rather sit around and crochet mustaches with!

Well somewhere along the way she met the man of her dreams. Grayson is just fantastic! He is a simple man who I find always to be extremely pleasant and fun and I just can’t think of one bad thing about him. Sometimes I think Grayson and Heather are perfect for one another because they are sort of opposites. Grayson is quiet to Heather’s rambunctious and rational to Heather’s silly…whatever it is…it just WORKS! They are absolutely adorable together as evidenced by the picture below!

Every time there is a post added to their site I am always amazed. But when he didn’t do his hair, it was a crazy mess. So he decided this morning to cut it all off, or better yet, to have me cut it all off. And yes, I can cut hair, {although my friend Lindsey would beg to differ since I hacked her bangs off a few years ago… “ooooh crap…..”} I’ve cut guys hair a million times!  I’ve been cutting Grayson’s hair since we started dating and it’s always looked great- until now.

I warned him that I’ve never gone from really long to short, it’s always been trimming long hair or just re-shaping  short hair, or shaving his head, or giving him some crazy mowhawk with lines shaved in the sides of his head {it was glorious}. This is a whole different ball park! So we took some photos along the way and after about an hour, the results were… well….. results.

the middle stage… I call this “The Eddie Munster”….. we couldn’t stop laughing.. it was glorious.

Turns out the Eddie Munster was pretty dang hard to come back from sooooo….. yah. At this point I was just sitting down being bummed out because shaving his head was the only option.. I miss his hair.

luckily he still looks pretty foxy with a shaved head.

I love the Weatherwax’s! We got to spend the day with them and Wyatt for the first time in months.

THEN… we got our tattoos! We planned on getting them when we got married but never had time with the move and weddings and everything, so we got them now. I was just going to get a small gray heart behind my ear {for Grayson} until I remembered I was too cheap to pay $60 just for that. So I decided to make it bigger and more “us”. So the tandem bike is not only our logo, it became our logo because of what it was to us. When we were dating I wanted a yellow tandem bike SO bad. We used to go to the park a lot and ride bikes, feed ducks and take naps. So one day we saw one at the bike rental booth and I just wanted to look at it. It happen to be for SALE and he bought it for me!! It was the first big purchase he made for me, we had a moment :] haha.

So we rode it everywhere, all the time. It was even our “get away car” at our wedding. We rode all around people as we left, it was awesome.  Then when I re-designed the business to be us, the tandem only made sense. So I guess that’s the story behind our logo, and us. And no, the tattoo doesn’t represent our business, it represents us.

Grayson got his ring tattooed on, a wood grain. He didn’t even flinch!!!! What a man. Me on the other hand, I was sweating profusely, whimpering, digging my nails in, biting, almost hyperventilating. I would NEVER do it again, not on my foot. My leg was convulsing, it was bad. Grayson really helped me through it, let me squeeze and bite as hard as I needed to. It helped knowing I was getting it for him…

So, tomorrow it’s off to CA for 2 weeks for 2 more weddings and some good times with friends/family. Although both of our parents are ditching us and going on vacation! haha. So… happy Tuesday!

Seriously, look at those little buddies…. I just wanna squeeze their little faces.. their cuteness kills me… And NO, they aren’t always in a cage, rarely actually. Just napping.

Holy crap…. I read this and this is EXACTLY what I’ve been feeling lately. It could not have been said better.  I had a long talk with our good friend Josh in the middle of the night a few days back about this very thing, and she pegged it. Glad to see I’m not alone. I’ve never been someone that’s happy with creating mediocre anything, and it’s so easy to get into a phase of feeling the lack of challenge. All back in the day I’d give myself these ridiculously uncomfortable documentaries to go out and do, solely to make myself uncomfortable and force myself to grow as a photographer and a person. I miss that, so much. I’d hang out with homeless people, knock on random people’s doors and ask to photograph them, take photos of people who’ve just lost a child… it was hard. I forced myself to photograph everything I was afraid of. Now those photos just sit in large portfolios under our bed.

I chose to be a wedding photographer because I wanted to take photos that meant something to someone. Photos that displayed who people were and what they were all about. I never wanted to be someone who created things that didn’t matter. We are so blessed with this “job” and we LOVE what we do. I used to be a Fashion Photography major until I realized 3 things:

1. I can care less about fashion, I wear what I want

2. I’m not shallow or catty enough to make it in that business

3. I don’t want to spend my life taking photos that 14year old girls flip through in a magazine and couldn’t care less about

I think that quote was just the inspiration I needed to push it a little farther… and a little farther after that. A good thing to read right before we shoot a wedding today. Thanks you Sarah, someday we’ll have to get some coffee and talk further. Maybe I’ll post some personal work someday if people want to see it…. Actually, it’s our blog, I’ll post it if I want haha.

Today is a sort of special day for us… our first date was on Valentine’s day… in IKEA.  Oh, that’s not a typo… IKEA baby!  Take note all you men out there still trying frantically to think of something to do tonight to win your lady’s heart.  Millions of couches, manufactured rooms and meatballs won my lady’s heart.  Enjoy the day and don’t be afraid to tell someone that you love them!  Go make dinner and shock all the restaurants out there expecting their place to be a zoo!  Happy Valentine’s Day!

So we just bought a bunch of Ryan Berkley’s animal portraits, {which we love.} But there was a lack of ferret pictures- they’re just not as appreciated as they should be. So my present to Heather was “portrait of a ferret”, I thought it was a pretty cool present {so did she}. Also my first ever painting.. first finished anyway :]

I worked in the photo lab at school for 2 years so I got all kind of perks: equipment whenever I wanted, dark room whenever  I wanted.. it was great!! So after I graduated and was cut off from all equipment I was screwed and could only shoot digital.. It’s fantastic for weddings, but not the same for me. SOOOO, for the past few years I’ve been slowly buying pieces to finish my Hassleblad. I have to say,  I had a few horribly ruined days thanks to crazy bidders on ebay stealing the lenses I wanted.  AND THENNNN Grayson bought me my awesome film scanner for Christmas that I had wanted since I graduated (gave it to me a month early because he was so excited). I was supposed to get it for my birthday but we found an awesome deal on a Hassleblad body so I got that instead.

But in the mean time, I shoot my Holga like it’s going out of style. I love how… crappy it is. It’s like the Polaroid ({RIP} of medium format cameras. It’s completely made of plastic and has been a trusted, always on me camera of mine for many years. That grungy, used up, dirty look that I can’t get enough of.  I finally got some down time to scan all my old film that’s been sitting in a box in my closet, begging to be seen. So, to put a rather large damper on our awesome Christmas, we had to put Charlie to sleep on the 28th Charlie is (of all the dogs we’ve had) the best one (sorry Stanley) and my oh so favorite. No one was happy about it, but he’s 13 now and… yah. So the night before we took some last photos with the boy. He used to be my little model back in high school photo class. I’d set up a studio and take pictures of him, haha. So a little tribute to our Char Char Bing.
